Palmer Flowers and Spiro Palmer come from very humble beginnings. Trained in the floral industry by his Uncle and brothers, Greek immigrant, Spiro and his wife Angela, started selling green plants in the Denver Dry Goods store in 1976. Finding a location in downtown Fort Collins, they opened the original shop, Palmer House Florist at the corner of College & Olive (where Mugs currently resides). With a strong commitment to hard work and long hours, and a belief in the opportunities afforded to them in their new country, it wasn’t long before the little shop began to grow. By focusing on customer service, value, selection and variety, and by always willing to go the extra mile, the little shop flourished.
In February 1983, Spiro built Palmer House Florist and Greenhouse at 3700 South College Ave. This shop was 17,000 square feet and in a location that was in the middle of nowhere at the time. However, this state of the art facility was ahead of its time and the vision and foresight reaped its rewards doubling sales in the first year alone. In the years since, the facility underwent several expansions and a major remodel in 1995, along with a name change to Palmer Flowers. Following two decades of success on College Avenue, Spiro Palmer moved the flower shop 30 yards east to the current location at 3710 Mitchell Dr. on March 1st, 2004. This beautiful building fits Palmer Flowers perfectly allowing for variable operations on a daily basis. To this day, Palmer Flowers maintains a stunning showroom, two exclusive walk-in coolers and a beautiful greenhouse open to all of our wonderful customers.
Palmer Flowers made a key addition in November of 2010 by acquiring Paul Wood Florist of Downtown Fort Collins. Paul Wood, the oldest retailer in Downtown Fort Collins, is a historical retail florist in Fort Collins with a loyal following. Immediately following the acquisition, Spiro Palmer worked his magic, renovating the 111 W. Olive St. flower shop. This extensive remodel transformed the space into the beautiful location that it is today!
In January of 2014 Spiro Palmer made another bold move, selling the majority interest of Palmer Flowers to long-time valuable employees Michelle Adams, Patsy Deines, Susan Stockwell, Sue Wambeke-Charles, and Lisa Stadele. Transforming Palmer Flowers into an employee owned organization was a long-time dream of Spiro’s and his dream had finally come true.
Alas, January of 2015 arrived and more exciting changes for Palmer Flowers! On the first day of 2015 Palmer Flowers merged with Front Range Flowers, the owner of retail flower shops in both Loveland and Boulder, Colorado. Spiro Palmer facilitated this amazing merger that resulted in the creation Palmer Flowers Companies, a retail floral management organization with four locations and seven brands spread across three cities in Northern Colorado. The merger introduced Tim & Danielle Jordan, previous owners of Front Range Flowers, as owners and key employees of Palmer Flower Companies. This transaction also added brought about Palmer Flowers Loveland. This new Palmer Flowers location is located at 1300 E Eisenhower Blvd giving Palmer Flowers a prominent presence in Loveland; a long-time dream of Spiro Palmer.
With a diverse and talented team, Palmer Flower Companies is primed to serve the entire Front Range corridor with premium floral designs and industry leading customer service. With a visionary leader like Spiro Palmer, the sky is truly the limit for this amazing organization.
